Rural Missouri electric company customers to see rate reduction

JOPLIN, MO – Empire District Electric Company customers will see their rates decrease by a total of $17.8 million according to the Missouri Public Service Commission.

Residential customers that use an estimated 1,000 kilowatt-hour of electricity can expect to see a reduction of $5.16 per month.

Serving an estimated 151,700 customers in Missouri counties, including Barry, Barton, Cedar, Christian, Dade, Dallas, Greene, Hickory, Jasper, Lawrence, McDonald, Newton, Polk, St. Clair, Stone and Taney County.

The Rate Reduction results from the passage of federal Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, which lowered corporate tax rates from 35% to 21%, which is a statement of President Trumps controversial actions.
